Robert D. Lewis received a B.A. degree (1974) from the University of
California at Berkeley, and a J.D. degree (1977) from the University of
California, Hastings College of the Law. Mr. Lewis is admitted to practice in
Alaska, and is an inactive member of the California Bar. He has practiced before
the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska, but gave up his entitlement
to practice in front of that august body in the early 80's based upon (at that
time) the court's propensity to call him weekly with felony court appointments,
and then later to decline to pay his reasonable fees, when he took those cases
to trial. When youthful and vigorous, he served as member of the Alaska Bar Association's Fee Arbitration Panel, and Bar Examination Committee. In middle years, he was regularly appointed as discovery master for the Superior Court in Anchorage. As decrepitude settles in, he limits his quasi-legal activities to the largely nominal position of President of the Northwest Alaska Bar Association, and (equally titular) timer for the local dog sled races. Mr. Lewis has completed about one-third of his moose detective novel, and is soliciting offers from literary agents.
